Music performance anxiety (MPA) is a growing concern for performers, affecting their psychological well-being and career trajectories. Recent research has focused on the re-validation of the Kenny Music Performance Anxiety Inventory-revised (K-MPAI-R) specifically among Chinese university students majoring in vocal music. This study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of how MPA manifests in this demographic and to ensure the reliability and validity of the K-MPAI-R within this cultural context.
The findings indicate that MPA is prevalent among vocal music students, influencing their performance quality and emotional health. The research highlights the necessity of addressing these anxiety levels through targeted interventions and support systems. By validating the K-MPAI-R, educators and psychologists can better identify students at risk and implement strategies to help them manage their anxiety. This study underscores the importance of mental health resources in music education, fostering a more supportive environment for aspiring vocalists.
