Dr. Katie Penry, a licensed clinical psychologist based in Southern Alabama, has expanded her specialized ADHD assessment services to 43 states across the U.S. The expansion is made possible through the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact, or PSYPACT, which allows psychologists licensed in participating states to practice across state lines.
Penry Psychology focuses on neuroaffirming assessments, meaning the evaluations are designed to recognize and respect the strengths and challenges of neurodivergent individuals rather than framing differences solely as deficits. Dr. Penry said the goal is to provide a more accurate and compassionate diagnostic experience for adults who suspect they have attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
Many people seeking an ADHD diagnosis have struggled for years with misunderstanding or misdiagnosis. Standard assessments can sometimes miss the nuances of how ADHD presents in women, people of color, and those with overlapping conditions like anxiety or autism. Penry's approach aims to address those gaps by using updated diagnostic tools and a thorough clinical interview process.
The expansion to 43 states opens access for clients who previously could not find a qualified provider in their area or faced long wait times for local appointments. Services are conducted via secure telehealth, making it easier for adults in both urban and rural communities to receive an evaluation.
Dr. Penry emphasized that the goal is not just to provide a label, but to help people understand their own minds and access the support they need. The practice accepts a range of insurance plans and offers self-pay options as well.
