A recent study has explored how emotional labor contributes to turnover intentions among rural physical education teachers in China. The research highlights the mediating role of job burnout and the moderating influence of social support within this dynamic.
Emotional labor, which involves managing one’s emotions to fulfill the demands of a job, has been identified as a significant factor affecting teachers’ job satisfaction and commitment. The findings suggest that teachers who engage in high levels of emotional labor are more likely to experience burnout, which in turn increases their intention to leave their positions.
Furthermore, the study emphasizes the importance of social support in mitigating these effects. Teachers who receive adequate support from colleagues and the community are less likely to experience the negative consequences of emotional labor, thereby reducing turnover intentions. This research underscores the need for educational institutions to foster supportive environments that can help retain teachers and enhance their well-being, particularly in rural settings where resources may be limited.
